Hindi OCR that understands mixed Hindi and English

Retyping Hindi is slow, especially if you don't use a Hindi keyboard every day. Hindi OCR (optical character recognition) reads Devanagari text from a picture and gives you real Unicode Hindi that you can edit, search and paste anywhere.

Most Hindi documents in daily life aren't purely Hindi. Shop bills, government forms, notices and school material mix Hindi with English words and numbers. Ordinary Hindi OCR turns the English parts into gibberish. This tool reads both scripts together, so a mixed bill comes out correctly in one go.

Tips for better Hindi results

  • Printed text works best. Clear, well-lit photos of newspapers, books and documents give the most accurate output.
  • Keep the page flat and straight; curved pages near a book's spine are harder to read.
  • For faint or faded text, turn on Enhanced.
  • Very small text and decorative fonts reduce accuracy, so zoom in or crop to the part you need.

Marathi and other languages

Marathi uses the same Devanagari script, so choose Marathi in the language menu for Marathi documents. For English-only images, the image to text converter uses an even more accurate English engine. You can also use this tool in Hindi on our Hindi-language page.

Frequently asked questions

Does it support Hindi?

Yes. Choose Hindi in the language menu. Printed Devanagari text works best, and documents that mix Hindi and English are supported.

Can it read documents that mix Hindi and English?

Yes. When Hindi is selected, English is recognised too, so bills, forms and notices that use both languages come out in one result.

Does it also work for Marathi?

Yes. Choose Marathi from the language menu. It uses the same Devanagari script support as Hindi.

How can I get the most accurate results?

Use a sharp, well-lit image with the text the right way up and filling most of the frame. Avoid shadows and glare, and choose the correct language. Faded text is handled automatically; for faded Hindi or Marathi text, also tick Enhanced.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Text recognition runs entirely inside your browser, on your own device. Your images and the extracted text are never uploaded to our servers or to anyone else.

Is the image to text converter really free?

Yes. It is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. You can convert up to 10 images at a time, as often as you like.
